BACKGROUND ON PROJECT

As ageing population in Asia rises, the demand for caregivers increases (Allaudeen 2017). Globally, there are 40 million caregivers providing informal care for patients suffering from chronic disabilities (Reinhard, Given, Petlick & Bemis 2008). Caregivers carry a huge amount of responsibilities that could lead to emotional instability (GoodTherapy 2015).

In order to solve this issue, we collaborated with the global wearable technology brand, Fitbit. Fitbit aims to design products that can help consumers with their health and fitness goals. With the desire to help people live a healthier life with the advent of technology, Fitbit shares the same vision as 8BAND. Fitbit upholds values such as efficiency and convenience, by providing faster and easier solutions in all their products. This is ideal as 8BAND aims to assist caregivers, providing an alternatives to ease their overwhelming amount of responsibilities.

8BAND

8BAND features a new technology enabling caregivers to track the patient’s body temperature, blood pressure and heart rate via the smartwatch. The data will be immediately sent to the caregiver’s and family members’ smartphone through the 8BAND app. With this, everyone will be able to monitor the patient’s progress with just a few clicks.

Smartwatch display feature:

Green screen - Stable condition

Yellow screen - Unstable condition

Red screen - Critical condition

App Interface

The app interface is designed to ensure that it is easy to navigate for all users. The app offers a minimalistic and clean outlook, ensuring that each data are apprehensive and clear so that the users can understand the information despite being medically untrained or technologically savvy.

Main Features:

Easy Monitoring - Tracks the patient's body temperature, blood pressure and heart rate and syncs the data to the 8BAND app

Remind Me - Sends prompt reminders on the patient's medication and meal timings. It also sends reminders to change the patient's position every few hours to avoid getting bed sores.

SOS - If there is an abnormality noticed in the patient's condition, the app will immediately alert the nearest hospital and help will be on the way.
